When our corporate client reached out to us early last year with their hopes of upping their holiday party game – we were excited to take it on! The attendees last year had a colorful and sweet experience around a Willy Wonka themed party. So we were excited to take on the challenge of maintaining a wow factor of being transported to another place, while bringing a different design look and feel. We came up with this Mad Scientist theme that we felt spoke to their specific employee audience really well! Here’s the custom lookbook we created for them:

“Transporting them to a new place” was definitely our challenge since we would be hosting the party in their large, industrial, warehouse-style workspace. The operative word was ‘transform’: to take their day-to-day office space and elevate it with strategic decor and activations.

Our team focused on curating overall experience for the night, including custom design, catering & bar, music, fun games and custom activations in theme. We curated and orchestrated the rentals, lighting, stage, catering, activities and more – with the hopes to deliver an immersive experience. We’re so happy with how it all turned out!

We have spent these past few years strengthening our vendor relationships – and we brought many of our favorites for this event. Here are some of our highlights of the night:

  • Elaine Bell Catering created amazing Mad Lab displays and curated the food offerings to be interactive. Our favorites were mixing brightly-colored, freeze-dried seasoning into mash potatoes, a bacon bar with different types and flavors of bacon, and super popular live liquid nitrogen ice cream!
  • Stuart Rentals executed on our dream of a multi-colored, pipe & drape entrance with multiple pocket for activations. We filled those spaces with bars, soft seating, and even a puzzle station!
  • Gatsby Entertainment came with their A-Game with black light cannons and experimented with moving customized gobos, something they’ve never done before!
  • Creative Transit Agency managed all our stage and sound needs and really helped us bring guests into the “Mad Lab” environment with spooky bubble/lab sounds at the entrance, to  the amazing No Water After Midnight band who rocked the stage in full mad scientist attire.
  • Guests literally tore up the custom Periodic Table dance floor decal, made by A52 Signs.
  • Guests chatted it up in Periodic Table themed lounges from Standard Rentals that provided both function and form with unique and colorful seating options named after Neon, Gold, Cobalt, and Copper elements
  • Juna Alinea also created some otherworldly florals for the occasion, spray painting florals to match our neon themes
  • Say Ya Photobooth provided two stations with Mad Lab backdrops and props

The team here at Make It Mariko also got nerdy with it and wanted to provide science-themed games and activities. We had a custom puzzle made using the event graphic (shout out to Katherine Sison for all the graphic designs) We were also inspired by this Periodic Table IRL infographic we came across – and made it into a life-size game. We left out other goodies such as glowstick accessory kits and molecule building sets for attendees to tinker with!

Once we were up and running – we donned on lab coats and protective eyewear, and got our dance on! Here at Make It Mariko – we love creating magical moments for clients and attendees; but we also love producing events that WE would go to.
